On Wednesday, February 10, the House State Affairs Committee voted 13-0 against returning some land in the Black Hills to the Native American tribes who were moved onto reservations back in the 1800s. According to a Rapid City Journal article, the request was put in by state representative Shawn Bordeaux, who serves on the Rosebud Sioux Tribe’s treaty council.
The resolution Bordeaux called for would have returned select federal lands in the Black Hills National Forest to back to the Native American tribes. It also requested "full and fair compensation" and the creation of a national commission.
