The Spearfish School District schools generally scored above state averages on the state's annual assessment, reports the Black Hills Pioneer. Progressing schools receive scores that are between the bottom five percent of total scores up to the top ten percent of scores.
The schools scored above state averages with the exception of sixth grade language arts and math and seventh grade math. Spearfish School District Director of Special Services Sarah Hellman found that math scores were slightly lower across the district. She noted that the new Common Core requirements may have been a contributing factor.
Above average test scores in the district may be reflected in the high school’s stellar graduation rate. The graduation rate at Spearfish High School is 99.6 percent with college career readiness scores landing at 81.5 percent.
