South Dakota Legislature May Decide on Transgender Bathroom Bill in 2017

Family Heritage Alliance Executive Director  Dale Bartscher the plans on drafting a bill regarding bathroom use by transgender students to the South Dakota Legislature this year, reports KOTA News. The bill would require transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their gender assigned at birth.

Transgender rights activist Terri Bruce notes that transgender people have used bathrooms with the gender they identify with for years without issues arising.

Bartscher notes that schools will decide how to enforce the bill and privacy provisions may be included to accommodate transgender students. The bill has not yet been drafted nor has any legislator agreed to sponsor the bill.
