A second bill enacting a state-wide texting ban has been approved by a legislative committee. According to a KOTA news story, SB 179 has been approved by the Senate Transportation Committee and will go before the full South Dakota Senate. SB 179 sets texting while driving as a $100 petty offense. Unlike HB 1177, it does not prohibit local governments from setting their own bans.
