Rapid City School Board Approves a $6M Opt-out

Fearing area students are suffering due to an underfunded educational system, the Rapid City School Board unanimously approved a five-year, opt-out of general funds. Local news channel KOTA  reports the measure will provide RCAS with $6 million annually, through raised taxes in the district for the next five years.    The decision could be overturned, if 5% of registered voters sign a petition to place the issue on the June 2015 ballot.  According to the Rapid City Journal Jim Hansen, Rapid City School Board President says, with budget short falls, the burden on homeowners is needed to keep a quality of life for not only students, but the community.
