Rapid City’s YMCA Expands Childcare Programs

Rapid City’s YMCA has partnered with Rapid City Area Schools (RCAS) to expand its childcare program, reports KOTA Territory News. The project, which began approximately four years ago, is now in its final stages.

This partnership comes with a move for both RCAS and the YMCA into the former Black Hills Corporation building on Ninth Street in Rapid City. Each entity will take up four floors in the eight-story building – the new space will allow the addition of 167 spots for children in the YMCA’s childcare program.

RCAS has already completed its transition into the new space, while the YMCA expect to be finished with renovations and moving by the end of August. This project is one of many in the community to receive Rapid City Vision Fund dollars. The YMCA of Rapid City is one of eight in the nation that was selected to pilot an early learning equity program, which has already proven to be successful. The program will begin September 3rd and will feature secure access to the new building by allowing parents entry via key fobs.
