Rapid City's Sign Code will have fewer restrictions following a settlement reached with Lamar Advertising. The Rapid City Journal reported on the settlement when it was presented to the Legal and Finance Committee last week; Monday night, the City Council voted to approve the settlement. Under the terms of the settlement, Rapid City will pay $100,000 to Lamar Advertising, end the ban on digital billboards, and decrease the minimum distance between signs.
Lamar Advertising had filed lawsuits in state and federal court, seeking millions of dollars in damages. A lawsuit filed by Epic Outdoor Advertising is still ongoing.
