Rapid City Police Department Issues 2016 Crime Report

The Rapid City Police Department recently issued its 2016 crime report, according to a city news release. In 2016, only two murders occurred within city limits, down from nine in 2015. Arson was also down significantly, with only two reported cases compared to eight in 2015.

While there were fewer arrests made in 2016 than 2015, robbery, burglary and thefts from vehicles all increased from 2015 to 2016. Robbery saw the largest increase at 11.0 percent, while burglary and theft increased by 7.0 and 4.0 percent, respectively.

Drug arrests in Rapid City nearly doubled from 669 arrests made in 2011 to 1,280 in 2016. Arrests for driving under the influence have increased slightly from 833 arrests made in 2011, to 937 in 2016.
