Rapid City Mayor Forms Panel to Study Future of Civic Center

With a government deadline to make the Civic Center ADA compliant coming in the future, Mayor Steve Allender has formed a 17-member task panel to keep him up-to-date on Civic Center matters as well as formulate ideas and plans for updating the Civic Center. According to the Rapid City Journal article, even though Rapid City voters chose not to support the proposed $180 million expansion, the Civic Center still needs approximately $73 million in updates to make it compliant with ADA standards. The panel will be tasked with finding how do the updates and still keep the Civic Center competitive with music acts and other events.
