Rapid City Mayor Announces New Police Chief, but Choice and Process Draw Criticism

Mayor Sam Kooiker on Monday announced his pick for a new Rapid City Chief of Police, but the process by which he was selected is being criticized.  According to the Rapid City Journal, a former police chief does not believe Lt. Diaz is ready to be the police chief and several City Council members criticized the late notice and the closed process by which Lt. Diaz was selected.
