Rapid City Mayor Announces 2017 Goals

In a press conference, Mayor Allender presented what Rapid City had accomplished in 2016 along with his priorities for 2017. The 2016 Progress Report touches upon almost every aspect of the city, from setting a new record for building permit valuations to the city ending the agreement for the long anticipated President's Plaza.

The Rapid City Journal reported Allender's top five goals for the year: developing the Fifth Street parking lot (the planned site for President's Plaza); filling department-head positions for Fire, Community Planning, and Public Works; fully implementing Priority Based Budgeting; adding 100 affordable houses; and instituting a "railroad quiet zones," by making changes to railroad crossings to limit the need for train horns.

Past stories on Rapid City's progress reports are linked in the Black Hills Knowledge Network's online news archive.
