Rapid City Departments and Groups Make Budget Requests

The process of creating Rapid City's budget continues, with several departments and city organizations presenting to the city council. No formal action was taken at this time, but the council will have several items to consider. The Rapid City Journal reported on the Monday and Tuesday meetings. Monday night had presentations from the Police Department and Parks & Recreation. The budget also includes a $400 raise for city council members, up from the current $13,000. Mayor Allender has stated that this would more fairly compensate the council members for the time spent on city work and help attract candidates. Tuesday night was mostly community groups, with Destination Rapid City asking for $80,000 to cover the cost of a cleaning crew.

Budget news items will continue to be tracked in the archive.
