Rapid City Civic Center Proposes Major Expansion

Plans call for construction of a major new arena and elevated parking garages. Cost projections range between $125 and $150 million to be paid for with the City's Vision Fund.

The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center is asking the City of Rapid City to finance a major expansion of its facilities using the city's Vision Fund. The plan calls for the construction of a new 15,000- to 18,000-seat arena and two elevated parking garages. Proponents suggest that the project would deliver a significant economic return to the city. It would, however, preclude funding other projects with Vision Fund revenues for some years.
