Rapid City recently applied for $632,000 from South Dakota's Bridge Improvement Grant program. According to a Rapid City Journal article, seven cities and thirty counties applied for grants, with a total of $16.8 million in funds requested and an estimated $9 million available to be granted out.
If Rapid City is approved for the grant, repairs and improvements would begin on the 12th Street bridge, the Cherry Avenue bridge, and a box culvert where Cambell and Highway 79 intercept.
Department of Transportation Administrator Laurie Schultz has stated that so far, no decisions have been made regarding the awarding of grants.
