Pine Ridge Alcohol Vote Challenges Headed to Court

The Oglala Sioux Tribe's election supervisor says the time to challenge the election has expired.

Protesters have been a mainstay this summer in the Nebraska border town of Whiteclay where alcohol his sold.

The Oglala Sioux Tribe's Election Board has denied three challenges to voters' approval of alcohol sales on the PIne Ridge Indian Reservation, reports the Rapid City Journal.

Another news report says that a hearing in tribal court is set for Sept. 20 to hear a challenge to the tribal council and the election committee's denial of challenges.

In August, reservation voters approved the sale of alcohol on the long-dry reservation. Read more about the issue in the Black Hills Knowledge Network archives.
