Piedmont Valley Elementary School is full to overflowing, and as the Piedmont and Summerset areas continue to grow, the district mulls construction of a new school. The estimated cost is $21 million, and the district's financial adviser, Toby Morris, said if the district is interested in building in the near future, now is the time for the board to take advantage of low-interest loan rates. The proposed school would be on the site of the district's old Stagebarn School. The board also discussed buying an additional 6.4 acres to potentially add a high school.
Meade School Board members will meet in special session the end of August to discuss future capital outlay projects. Included in that discussion is the possible middle school in Piedmont. The proposed 110,000 square foot two-story building would house sixth through eighth grade students, but could be expanded to include fifth grade.
