Piedmont City Park Celebrates 100 Years

Piedmont celebrated the 100-year anniversary of its city park last weekend, in conjunction with its annual Fall Festival, reports the Black Hills Pioneer. Charles “C.V.” Gardner originally donated the land for the park in 1918.

The Piedmont Fall Festival ran from 9am to 3pm Saturday, September 8th, and included over forty vendors – from quilters to woodworkers to potters. City park board members realized this year’s significance, and served up a hot dog lunch, complete with birthday cake in honor of the celebration.

Festivities also included a 5K Fun Run and Walk and the second annual Piedmont Fire and Ambulance Dodgeball Tournament at the park’s basketball court. Tom Hook, assistant chief of medical for the Fire and Ambulance, said that the tournament began as a way to reach out the community and potential new volunteers. To up the stakes, firefighters competing are outfitted in full bunker gear, helmets, and air packs.
