In less than a month, Steve Allender will be sworn in as Rapid City's new mayor. He recently spoke with the Rapid City Journal about the campaign and about some of his plans once he takes office. One early concern will be what to do about the Civic Center; Rapid City voters rejected the Civic Center expansion, but the ADA issues still need to be resolved. Another of his concerns is Rapid City's homeless population. Allender whats to create small housing for the homeless. Once the homeless are off the street, their other needs can be assessed. Programs to house the homeless have seen success in Utah.
