Indian Health Service officials have sent a letter to Sioux San representatives in Rapid City to inform them that plans are underway to demolish several older building on the campus and replace them with a new hospital facility. The Rapid City Journal reported that in the letter, once the IHS and South Dakota Historic Preservation office finalize a plan to minimize damage to historic structures on the campus, federal funds that have been allocated to the project can be used to start the demolition and construction of the new facility. A timetable is being developed, though no start or finish date has been predicted at this time.
