Old Sioux Nation Store Gets Facelift From Buche Foods

New Grocery Store Opens In Pine Ridge

The old Sioux Nation store building has recently reopened its doors in Pine Ridge Village, as Buche Foods was awarded the contract to operate the store by the Oglala Sioux Tribe in November of 2018 after Sioux Nation was shut down. According to KNBN NewsCenter1, Buche Foods, which also sells hardware and auto parts, opened officially on Tuesday.

RF Buche, president of Buche Foods, hopes to enrich the community and provide access to better quality food. Buche Foods also has stores in Gregory, Wagner, and Mission. Workers and contractors have worked through severe storms and floods in order to open on time. Community leaders have said that the opening of Buche Foods is a turning point in the fight against food insecurity on the reservation.

The new store employs approximately 80 people, most of whom worked at the Sioux Nation store before it closed.
