Members of South Dakota’s National Guard will return to work at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in August, reports the Black Hills Pioneer. Eighty soldiers camped at the research facility in Lead to work on construction projects during the Golden Coyote training exercise, held last month.
Michele Baumann, a contract specialist for the facility, explained that the teams assisted in the construction of roads and performed other maintenance, along with building renovation and drainage routing. The teams will return in August to assist in the demolition of two rooms in the drill shop, which will then be used for storage, as well as hauling gravel and concrete pieces off of the facility’s campus.
