A mosasaur fossil was found near the Black Hills recently, reports the Rapid City Journal. Frank Garcia, a world renowned paleontologist, found the fossil with his wife and a friend. The fossil is a well-perserved skull of the marine mammal that is related to the Komodo dragon.
Black Hills Institute of Geological Research president, Peter Larson, notes this fossil is "very significant." Other mosasaur fossils have been found in South Dakota, but this one is very complete.
