Several legislative committees are exploring issues during the summer which may lead to legislation next year. The Substance Abuse Prevention Study committee is looking at drug abuse, both prescription and legal, with an emphasis on meth. The Rapid City Journal reported on the June 15th meeting where police chiefs testified about their observations and suggestions for dealing with the "epidemic". Rapid City's Karl Jegeris suggested tracking the babies of mothers who use meth.
The committee will meet three more times in the summer. More articles on the state legislature can be found in the Black Hills Knowledge Network's online archive.
