Mental Crisis Services are Available to Veterans

"Mental Health First Aid Training: Military Members, Veterans, & Their Families" was a seminar hosted by the Front Porch Coalition, reports the Rapid City Journal.  The seminar gave survivors a chance to tell their stories and provided a process to help those in a mental health crisis.  This particular seminar focused on helping active military personnel in addition to veterans due to the stigma associatead with mental illnesses in the military.

The Front Porch Coalitioin is a non-profit group which focuses on mental health and suicide prevention.  A National Center for Health Statistics study shows that the suicide rate in the U.S. increased 24 percent from 1999 to 2014.  A U.S. Veterans Affairs study from 2014 notes a 32 percent increase since 2001.
