Mayor Chooses New Police Chief for Rapid City

In a press release on the morning of June 9, Mayor Sam Kooiker announced his pick for Chief of the Rapid City Police Department: Eliaz Diaz. The Rapid City Journal goes into more details on Diaz, a lieutenant with RCPD. The mayor also revealed some of the process in selecting a new chief.

Diaz will fill the vacancy left by Steve Allender's retirement on May 29. His appointment still requires the approval of the City Council.
