The candidates for Rapid City mayor met again in debate Tuesday night. This debate was sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police, the International Association of Fire Fighters, and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, which are the three unions that represent city employees. The Rapid City Journal reported on the event, noting that both candidates were in support of unions. Of areas where the candidates differed, the article stated that former Police Chief Steve Allender viewed the economy as flat, which resulted in poor wages. Mayor Sam Kooiker disagreed with this assessment, pointing out that Allender hadn't explained how the economy was flat, or how to fix it.
