Interim Fire Chief of Rapid City Appointed

Mayor Steve Allender has appointed Rod Seals to be interim chief of the Rapid City Fire Department, according to a city news release. Seals is a 20-year veteran of the fire department.

Seals has served as the department’s deputy fire chief since November 1, 2015. His former positions during his career have included firefighter-medic, fire lieutenant, fire captain, battalion chief, and assistant chief of fire operations.

Mayor Allender expects the process of selecting a new fire chief to take approximately six months. The process will be conducted in two phases which will include interviews and assessments of the current fire department and its staff as well as internal evaluations to determine current staff workloads.
