Interactive Map Features SD's Historic Photos, Maps

An online interactive map displays many historic photos and maps from througout South Dakota. The map is part of Sen. John Thune's official website and features images from the Library of Congress.

The map displays small pop-up windows with thumbnails of the images that can be clicked through to the Library of Congress web page devoted to a given photograph. The pop-ups often feature several photos and allow the viewer to scroll through the images related to a single geographic location.

Images from throughout the Black Hills include an 1891 photo of the Lakota chiefs American Horse and Red Cloud standing outside a tipi, a 1908 photo from underground in Lead's Homestake gold mine and cityscapes of Rapid City and Custer.
