Noem Hears Concerns about Health Care at Town Hall Meeting

A Rapid City town hall showed that while Representative Kristi Noem and some of her constituents may agree that health care needs fixing, they differ on the solution. The Rapid City Journal reported Noem as giving her support to the American Health Care Act(AHCA) to combat rising premiums and because insurers have left the state. The crowd cheered the idea of single-payer health care, but Noem was quick to point out that she would oppose such a plan.

Responding to a question on pre-existing conditions, Noem responded that the bill does not allow insurance companies to deny applicants over pre-existing conditions. However, states can apply for a waiver that would allow companies to raise rates for those with pre-existing conditions; Governor Daugaard has indicated he would consider applying for such a waiver if the AHCA passes.
