After a year in Afgahnistan, seven members of a South Dakota National Guard firefighting team were welcomed home by family and friends at a ceremony in Rapid City, the Black Hills Pioneer reports.

While deployed, the team responded to 21 emergency and non-emergency calls for aid, provided fire and life safety evaluations, assisted in a flood relief operation, trained with German forces and trained Afghan National Army soldiers on firefighting techniques, a SD National Guard press release reports.

See video of Gov. Dennis Daugaard welcoming the troops home on the SDNG Facebook page. See more photos from the ceremony at the SDNG Flickr stream.
