Crackerbarrel Gives Opportunity to Discuss Potential Legislation

The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology hosted the final legislative crackerbarrel session of the year, sponsored by the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce. The Rapid City Journal reports budget shortfalls, income taxes, vehicle bills, and public safety zones among the discussed issues.  Public safety zones are part of Senate Bill 176 which would authorize their creation and the implementation of penalties for violation.  Those accused of violating the "public safety zone" no trespass warning would be reprimanded with a mandatory 10 days in jail for the misdemeanor charge, while repeat offenses in a two year time span would constitute a Class 6 felony.
