Mayor Steve Allender believes the Cornerstone Rescue Mission's future is very uncertain due to VA budget cuts and stagnant donations. In the Rapid City Journal article, the mayor pointed out that without the city's funding boost of $250,000, the mission would be in danger of closing down. Currently the Cornerstone Mission is understaffed and struggling to meet the needs of those who need a meal and place to sleep at night. Its beds are full nearly every night and some have taken to sleeping on the floor due to the limited space.
