Belle Fourche School District Selects New Elementary Principal

The Belle Fourche School Board recently selected Julie Hatling as the new elementary principal for the district. According to the Black Hills Pioneer, Hatling has been with the district for 12 years.

This hiring follows the approval by the school board of a request from Ryan Young, who served as elementary principal from 2016 to 2018 to be released from his 2018-2019 contract with the district. In their August 2nd meeting, the school board accepted this request and then unanimously voted to hire Hatling to fill the position.

In her time with the Belle Fourche School District, Hatling served first as a substitute teacher and paraprofessional at South Park Elementary before becoming a middle school math teacher at the middle school. In the fall of 2016, Hatling became the curriculum director and testing coordinator for the district, which was contracted through the Black Hills Special Services Cooperative.

Hatling looks forward to her new position, which she thinks will be aided by her experience with staff and families in the community from her time as a teacher. The focus for the coming year will be on the district’s positives, of which Hatling says there are many.
