2016 Legislation Could Lead to Teacher Pay Solutions

State Rep. Lance Russell, R-Hot Springs, aims to propose a bill this legislative season that would use video lottery money to increase the pay to teachers in South Dakota reports the Rapid City Journal.  Gov. Daugaard's 2015 Blue Ribbon Task Force researched the low amount of education funding currently available.  Some fear that redirecting video lottery funds to teacher pay would result in shorting other departments.  State Rep. Russell indicates that the deficits to other agencies would amount to only 1.5% and changes should be able to adjust to that small difference in funding.
