100-Year-Old Belle Fourche Bleachers Raise Liability Concerns

The bleachers at the Roundup Grounds Sports Complex in Belle Fourche are raising liability concerns, reports the Black Hills Pioneer. The bleachers are nearly a century old and insurance liability has become an issue.

The city’s hospitality, or third penny, tax has been discussed as the first source of revenue for the project. However, revenue from this fund was down 13 percent in the past year.

The last update to the to the Roundup Grounds, which made updates to the western side of the structure, cost the city approximately $680,000. With the low revenue from the third penny tax, other suggested funding sources for the updates included grants, bonding, and fundraisers.
