Pennington County Sheriff Asks for More Deputies

Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom is asking for $500,000 to be added to his department's $27 million budget. According to the Sheriff's Office's website, the department serves the 100,000 residents of Pennington County, as well as visitors to the area. The additional funds would add more deputies for faster response times; the Rapid City Journal reports that, with the county measuring 100 miles across, response times can take upwards of 40 minutes.
