Black Hills Counties Broadband Connection Rates Vary

Three Black Hills counties -- Lawrence, Meade and Pennington - have close to the highest broadband connection rates in the nation, reports Governing magazine

Each of those counties have connection rates between 401 and 600 fixed internet connections per 1,000 households. (The connections must be fast enough to stream video.)

A small number of counties nationwide exceed that rate, recording between 601 and 800 such connections per 1,000 households.

Other counties in the Black Hills have lower connection rates.

  • Butte County -- 201 to 400 connections per 1,000 households.
  • Custer County -- 1 to 200 connections per 1,000 households.
  • Fall River County -- 1 to 200 connections per 1,000 households.
  • Shannon County -- 1 to 200 connections per 1,000 households.
