Piedmont - Health & Wellness

Piedmont is located in Meade County. Meade County ranks 32nd out of all the 60 registered counties in South Dakota for overall health outcomes in 2017.

Residents of Meade County who admit they smoke is 17 percent, less than the state average of 20 percent, but higher than the national average of 14 percent. 

The teen birth rate in Meade County is slightly lower than the state birthrate of 34 per 1,000 females ages 15-19 compared to 27 per 1,000 females. Hospitals & Clinics

There are no hospitals or clinics located within the city limits of Piedmont, but Sturgis and Rapid City are both a short drive away for medical assistance.

Much of Meade County is served by Sturgis Regional Hospital in Sturgis. The hospital is a 25-bed critical access hospital that also has 84 beds for senior care, called the Sturgis Regional Senior Care and a specialty clinic for visiting physicians, called Massa Berry Regional Medical Clinic. The hospital has 24-hour emergency care. To contact the facility, call 605-720-2400. The Sturgis Regional Hospital is part of the Regional Health System. The system’s main hospital is located approximately 30 miles from Sturgis in Rapid City.

Meade County is also home to the VA Black Hills Healthcare System at Fort Meade in Sturgis. The VA at Fort Meade provides primary and secondary medical and surgical care as well as “residential rehabilitation treatment program (RRTP) services, extended nursing home care and tertiary psychiatric inpatient care services, for veterans residing in South Dakota and portions of Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana. Roughly 14.3 miles away, there are several hospitals and clinics located in Rapid City, including but not limited to, Black Hills Surgical Hospital and Rapid City Regional Hospital. Fitness & Recreation 

The Northern Black Hills features fun outdoors activities of all kinds! Including, but not limited to, hiking, rock climbing, biking, and camping. There's endless opportunities for playing outside. 

The Sturgis Community Center, located at 1401 Lazelle Street in Sturgis, provides a diverse number of programs for the citizens of the greater Sturgis area in a healthy and safe environment. They have cardio and weight rooms open 24 hours a day. For more information, call 605-347-6513.
