Rapid City Community Archives Survey

Many of the best photographs and most important documents that tell the history of our community are in boxes, file drawers and basements in businesses, churches, service clubs and organizations in Rapid City. The Rapid City Community Archives Survey offers you a glimpse into these fascinating collections.

Background

With a Deadwood Preservation Grant, field historians Eric Zimmer and Morandi Hurst visited more than two dozen historic businesses and organizations in the Rapid City area in the summer of 2010. Working under the supervision of professional historian Dr. Eric John Abrahamson, they surveyed records and artifacts and created finding aids for these collections. These finding aids are available below.

As we continue to expand the historical resources available through the Black Hills Knowledge Network, we are eager to document the existence of other historical collections in our community. If the history of your organization or business is hidden in boxes in the basement, please contact us at [email protected].
