Rapid City's Legal and Finance Committee unanimously recommended issuing a construction permit for the President's Plaza. The City Council will decide whether to override the state Historic Preservation Office's determination that the height of the project negatively impacts the downtown historic district. 

Despite the state Historical Preservation Office's decision that the President's Plaza would negatively impact the downtown historic district because of its height, Rapid City's Legal and Finance Committee unanimously approved construction. Rapid City BID discussed ways to raise revenue at Main Street Square after viewing revised budget projections.

After receiving  revised budget projections, the Rapid City Business Improvement District (BID) discussed ways to raise revenue at Main Street Square.  Executive Direcctor Megan Karbowski predicted expenses for 2012 would be $595,6770.  Revenue for this year is expected to total $596.080.  She anticipates private donations will be used to supplement the budget.

The city project to enhance the Rushmore Road corridor in town has been given tentative City Council approval to receive an additional increase in Vision funding.

The Rapid City project to enhance and beautify the Rushmore Road corridor through town has been given tentative approval by the City Council to receive an additional increase of $3.1 million in Vision funding. Public works committee considers policy that would establish proportionate use for Rapid City recreational facilities.

Larger groups could see more use of Rapid City recreational facilities. A policy being considered by the Public Works Committee at their June 12 meeting would establish proportionate use of facilities like the community gyms and the Roosevelt Park Ice Arena during prime usage hours.

Pow wow and Wiping of the Tears ceremony remember those who lost their lives in the flood of 1972.

Billy Good Voice Elk Junior, a Lakota spiritual advisor, consoled those who attended ceremonies at the Mother Butler Center in rememberance of the 1972 flood. Don Loudner, a member of the South Dakota National Guard in 1972 who helped rescue people that night, offered memories.

On Monday in Rapid City, new city building codes changes will go into effect.

Due to building code changes, commercial and residential construction projects in Rapid City will have to abide by some new rules starting June 11th. Changes pertain to replacing siding in historic districts, residential roofing permits, and residential contractor licensing. City Council signed off on the changes in their May 7th meeting and new ordinances go into effect twenty days after publication.

As the Spearfish Canyon mining project gains more attention, interest is growing as to who is behind the Deadwood Standard. The individuals backing the project include doctors, geologists, farmers, ranchers, business owners and miners, in which 7 out of the 10 are from South Dakota, according to the Black Hills Pioneer.
