The population of Summerset was 1,814 at the time of the 2010 U.S. Census. The median age was 31.6 years. Whites accounted for the 93 percent of the total population. Significant minority groups included American Indian (2.5 percent), Hispanics (2.4 percent), and African Americans (1.0 percent). 

Of the 655 total households in the community, 287 included children under 18 years old. Roughly two-thirds of the households included a husband and wife living together. Single parents (men and women) living with children made up about one in eight households. The average household size was 2.77. 

At the time of the census, 7.4 percent of the housing units in Summerset were vacant -- either for rent or for sale. Of the occupied units, 89.2 percent were owner-occupied, one of the highest rates of homeownership in the Black Hills.
