Shannon County School District

Students in the Shannon County School District take the annual Dakota STEP test to ensure that the district is making adequate yearly progress (AYP) in reading and math. According the State of South Dakota's report card, Shannon County students did not achieve AYP in elementary, middle or high schools in the spring of 2011, though elementary students who are economically disadvantaged and elementary students with disabilites both achieved AYP.

Shannon County's high school graduation rate was 7.4 percent in 2011, higher than the 4.8 percent rate posted in 2010 but dramatically lower than the statewide average of 83.3 percent.

During the 2009-2010 academic year, the Shannon County School District's fall enrollment was 1,117 in grades K-12. With a 11.3 percent dropout rate, the district graduated 20 students.
