The scientist who heads up research for the Majorana Demostrator experiment said the team has made "tremendous progress" in its search for a rare form of radioactive decay. The team did discover that infrared heat had been leaking into its prototype detectors and was able to correct that.

Plans are to move from prototype detectors to the detector that will be used to collect data later in 2014.
