Piedmont - Education & Training
Piedmont Valley Elementary School is a part of the Meade School District and had a 2012-2013 enrollment of about 489 students. The school consists of kindergarten through six grades. Students in grades seven through 12 attend school at Sturgis Williams Middle School and Sturgis Brown High School.
The elementary school, which is located at 16159 Second Street, was reconstructed in 2012 and reopened this year. The gymnasium is the only portion of the school that was not torn down and rebuilt.
Students at the school take the annual Dakota STEP test as part of the federal No Child Left Behind Act. (See the complete report.)
In third grade math, 85 percent of the students were advanced or proficient. In fourth grade, 88 percent of the students were advanced or proficient. In fifth grade, 81 percent
were advanced or proficient and fifth grade and 88 percent in sixth grade.
In reading, 83 percent of third grade students scored advanced or proficient; 85 percent of fourth graders were advanced or proficient; 81 percent of fifth graders were advanced or proficient and 82 percent of sixth graders were advanced or proficient.
