Hot Springs School District

According the State of South Dakota's 2014-2015 report card, the Hot Springs School District 23-2 had a high school graduation rate of 91.8 percent in 2015, which was higher than previous year's rates and the statewide average of 83.96 percent.

During the 2015-2016 academic year, Hot Springs School District had a total fall enrollment of 845 students in preschool to twelfth grade. With a 1.2 percent dropout rate, the district graduated 63 students. 33 students took the ACT exam. The Hot Springs School District is governed by a seven-member board which meets monthly. The board’s meeting schedule, agendas for meetings, and board minutes are posted on the school district’s website. The minutes are also published in the Hot Springs Star and can be accessed online. News articles about school board meetings and other school-related events are found at the same website under the Schools tab. The school’s mission is summed up on the district’s website in four words: work, learn, celebrate, achieve. In order to help students succeed and graduate, the district offers an alternative program in addition to the traditional elementary, middle school and high school. Sports are also an important part of the educational experience for students in the Hot Springs school district.

Budget

The Hot Springs Board of Education tentatively approved a budget of $8.4 million for the 2016-2017 academic year. The General Fund has been budgeted $5.6 million, the Capital Outlay Fund $1.3 million, and Special Education $1.4 million. Edgemont School District

Edgemont School District 23-1 enrolled a total of 150 students in preschool through twelfth grade in the fall of 2016. With a 1.4 percent dropout rate, the district graduated 8 students. 4 students took the ACT exam. The Edgemont School District is governed by a five-member Board of Education, which meets monthly. Minutes of these meetings are posted on the school’s website. In addition to the core curriculum, distance learning classes and dual-credit college courses, the school offers electives, a fine arts program and a competitive sports program. 

Oelrichs School District

The Oelrichs School District 23-3 enrolled a total of 99 students in the fall of 2016 in grades K-12. With a dropout rate of 0.0 percent, the district graduated nine students. Other Educational Opportunities

Operated by Black Hills Special Services Cooperative, Community Education of the Black Hills offers adult learning classes in Hot Springs, including recreation and educational classes.
