A number of area swimming pools have water qualities that are below state standards.    South Dakota no longer regulates municipal swimming pools or beaches for bacteria content due to funding cuts.  Several area hotel pools also have a bacteria problem and this can occur in spite of regular testing..  Microorganisms found in public pools can create health risks for users.  The Centers for Disease Control provides tips for safe swimming.
